The AIA Virginia Design Awards shine a spotlight on recent projects that are distinct examples of thoughtful, engaging design. This year, Ehlert Bryan was pleased to see our Niamey Embassy project with Page and BLHI win an Award of Honor in the Contextual Design category.
This category highlights structures that not only reflect the history, culture, and physical environment of their locations, but also meaningfully contributes to those same qualities. The judges were impressed at how the design uses of Niger’s abundant sun and seasonal rain as essential components for photovoltaic panels, the solar hot water heating system, and the integrated wastewater recovery and reuse process. These green elements are part of making this campus the first project in West Africa with a LEED Platinum Certification.
