The Project

The Tucson Medical Center West Pavilion is a new five-story addition to the existing medical center and adjoining five-story parking garage. It also includes improvements to the upper three floors of the Tucson Medical Center’s Surgery Department. The project provides for two distinct surgery departments. The main department has 14 operating rooms with four cardiac interventional suites. The secondary department is a collaboration between the Tucson Medical Center and the Tucson Orthopaedic Institute. It has 12 fully integrated operating rooms and a 40-patient nursing unit for private orthopaedic specialties.

Structural Features

The building is steel-framed with composite concrete floors. The garage is precast concrete and has about 632 parking spaces. The architecture also incorporates native stones and copper, which indicates the ties the hospital has to the community and it also provides a welcoming environment.
