The Project
As the only fire station for the City of Summit, NJ, this facility houses the department’s entire fleet of apparatus, headquarters offices, and on-site training facilities. It accommodates 24 fire fighters per shift in administrative and living spaces on the third floor that spans over and across the apparatus bays.
This station incorporates Hot Zone Design principles to support decontamination procedures.
Structural Features
The building has structural steel framing with masonry walls in the apparatus bays and surrounding service areas. The roof is metal decking on open web steel joists and the second floor is composite concrete on metal decking supported on steel beams and girders. The foundations are standard concrete footings with a conventional grade slab.
