A new two-story church built adjacent to a new condominium as part of a land swap in Washington, DC.
The Project
New two-story 15,000 SF church built adjacent to a new condominium as part of a land swap. The building is in the Metro “zone of influence” which required WMATA design submissions.
Challenge
The building structure is a steel frame with composite concrete and steel deck floors. The stair and elevator towers are reinforced masonry as is the firewall between this building and the adjacent condominium. Due to the Metro, the foundations included a unique grouted compacted aggregate pier system to deliver the building loads below the zone of influence.
