A new two-story church facility built adjacent to a new nine-story apartment building as part of a land swap deal.
The Project
A new two-story $5.6 million, approximately 11,000 SF church facility built adjacent to a new nine-story apartment building as part of a land swap deal. The building is within the “zone of influence” for Metro tunnels and required WMATA design submissions and approval.
Structural Features
The building is one- and two-stories and is constructed on a steeply sloping site. Construction is structural steel with long-span open web joists for the larger sanctuary spaces and concrete on composite metal decking for the supported floors. Unique design aspects included lateral support framing for the large two-story glass walls.
