The Project
A 47,000 SF three-story retail building including a glass-enclosed rooftop restaurant, roof terraces with trees and planters, rooftop trellises, aluminum window awnings, monumental stairs, indoor fountains, and juliet balconies.
Structural Features
The structural scope included the intricate design of supports for chandeliers, rug displays, sink displays, custom bathroom sinks, and other displays and features unique to the retailer. The structural floors include numerous steps and recesses to accommodate thickset finishes, rooftop terraces, and trench drains within the restaurant kitchen. The steel floor framing was carefully coordinated with the MEP systems to allow ductwork and piping to pass through cutouts in the beam webs, maximizing ceiling heights of the retail spaces. The rooftop restaurant included architecturally exposed steel trusses, purlins, and columns to support the glass roof, glass walls, heavy snow loads of Minnesota, and numerous chandeliers, with steel member shapes selected to provide concealed pathways for running wiring. Decorative site walls to create exterior courtyards and support large decorative gates were also part of the structural design.
