The Project
Complete renovation of and addition to an existing recreation facility. The original ice rink building was constructed in 1976 as a pre-engineered metal building. The pool building and lobby were added in 1979, with the pool building also a pre-engineered metal building. The current project includes a complete renovation of the existing buildings, plus additions including a two-story, 34,300 SF modern fitness center/entry, a second ice rink with fixed seating and an elevated jogging track, and the first climbing wall in the Fairfax County Park Authority system.
Structural Features
Y-shaped columns support the upper roof of the entry area. These columns also form part of the lateral load resisting system for this area.
