Repairs to the ten-story, Class B office building in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The Project

This building is a 10-story Class B office building in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC. It’s located within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol Building, the Senate Office Building, and Union Station.

EB’s scope included brick masonry and waterproofing repairs to the 10 – story brick masonry clad building. Services included investigation, design, bidding, and construction administration.

The project required innovative solutions to overcome the waterproofing challenges posed by the precast lintels grouted solid with the exterior brick cladding and exterior brick deterioration.

Repair Features

Ehlert Bryan was involved in the survey, evaluation, preparation of repair drawings and construction administration services. Scope of work included brick and mortar repairs, precast repairs, 100% lintel flashing installation, parapet repairs, complete removal and replacement of exterior sealants along with replacement of the existing sheet applied modified bitumen roof system with a new hot rubberized asphalt system.

EB used various intrusive and non-intrusive testing methods to assess the water resistance of the exterior masonry and window systems to determine necessary repairs to the exterior cladding during the field investigation phase.
