The Project
Performance stage, restroom facilities, amenity buildings, and supporting site structures. This project is located overlooking the James River and downtown Richmond, along with being adjacent to the historic Tredegar Iron Works.
The modern and impressive open-air concert venue was designed to accommodate 7,500 patrons and is a new focal point for cultural and civic activation in Richmond. It is a transformative addition- skillfully merging architectural innovation, regional history, and sustainable infrastructure. Its versatile design lends itself to concerts, civic events, festivals, and private functions. It stands poised to bolster the city’s economy, cultural prominence, and community engagement for years to come.
Structural Features
Structural steel was selected as the ideal framing system for the performance stage due to the long spans, open viewing areas, and sleek architectural demands. The stage roof is constructed with 48 ft, W30 steel girders that cantilever 16.5 ft. The venue has unique rigging platform loadings along with the structure acting as a “sail” due to the partially open classification with higher wind loads acting on all exposed surfaces. Standard continous and spread foundations are supported by ground-imporved rammed aggregate piers below the performace stage. Construction of the venue aimed for sustainability- tackling waste with waste sorting, recylcing, composting, and a targeted 70% diversion rate to reduce landfill impact.
