Every year since 1994, the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies put together a prestigious program for Design Excellence. These awards honor architectural projects achieving a high standard of excellence in design, construction, planning, sustainability, and promoting best practices for private and public development.
Ehlert Bryan is proud to announce that the Consulate General of the United States – Hermosillo, Mexico won an American Architecture Award for Government Buildings for 2022. This campus reflects traditional designs from public buildings throughout Mexico while also incorporating environmental sustainability features and rigorous security measures.
With a minimum goal of LEED Silver certification, the project uses solar photovoltaic electrical and hot water arrays, stormwater detention and infiltration, and water-efficient drip irrigation systems via stormwater reuse. One of the major features of the consulate is a steel armature screen with perforated infill panels. This optimizes a balance between preserving views, maximizing daylight, controlling glare, and mitigating solar heat gain.
