Design and construction of a 141,000 SF office building in Fort Benning, GA meeting Department of Defense anti-terrorism requirements.

The Project

This Design/Build project is a four-story, 141,000 SF office building in Fort Benning, GA designed to meet progressive collapse and blast requirements from the Department of Defense. Consultants used BIM software to coordinate efforts and construction cost was approximately $39 million.

Structural Features

This building uses structural steel in its framing system with braced frame lateral resistance system and shallow spread footings founded on dense aggregate pier for foundations. The façade is brick veneer with cast stone accents supported on brick frames designed to resist the required blast loads to the glazing. Special features include large 25 feet by 40 feet bays and a floor system designed to resist building frame progressive collapse using the tie force methodology of the UFC 4-0236-03 (14 July 2009). The project was delivered to the Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District through a design/building method.
